ATLANTIC CITY, NJ-It could be a storyline from “The Sopranos”–Resorts Atlantic City wants to tear down its old 10-story North Tower and replace it with a new 400-room tower, a project that will cost $115 million. But pre-demolition work has been halted by the Casino Control Commission while it investigates charges that the demolition firm Maztec Environmental Inc., has ties to organized crime.

Those charges have been leveled by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, which charges that Maztec, which is part of Elizabeth, NJ-based Mazzocchi Wrecking Inc., has, as one of its shop stewards, a member of the DeCavalcante crime family. The DGE also charges that both Maztec president Grace Mazzocchi and operations manager Charles DiMaria have relationships with other alleged DeCavalcante crime figures.
