The firm has taken 142,000 sf in the 1.5 million-sf office tower, including part of the 19th floor and the entire 23rd, 24th and 26th floors. Bingham McCutchen already occupies the remainder of the 19th floor as well as the 20th and 21st floors. The new lease brings the law firm's total space to six full floors in the 39-story building. The expansion space is a consolidation of Bingham's 885 Third Ave. offices. The firm has more than 125 attorneys in New York.

"There is no question that New York is our number one priority in terms of expansion and future growth of the firm," says Jay S. Zimmerman, chairman of Bingham McCutchen. "We've grown from 25 to more than 125 lawyers in New York in the past several years and we expect that level of growth to continue as we strengthen several of our practice areas."

Cushman & Wakefield president of U.S. operations Bruce Mosler, chairman of the Board John Cushman and executive director Mitchell Barnett represented Bingham McCutchen in the lease negotiations. Building owner Citigroup represented itself. Terms of the lease have not been disclosed, but in June, published reports placed asking rents at the property at roughly $85 per sf.

"Bingham McCutchen has significantly enhanced its presence here, now occupying six floors in one of Manhattan's premier properties," says Mosler. "The firm is well positioned to continue to expand its growing business in New York."

Bingham McCutchen, one of the nation's 25 largest law firms, is the result of the recent merger of finance and litigation specialists Bingham Dana LLP, and litigation firm and McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen LLP.

Built in 1961, 399 Park was sold by Citigroup to Boston Properties at the end of August for more than $1 billion.
