FREMONT, CA-After losing its would-be anchor tenant, the City of Fremont is considering whether to scrap current plans to redevelop a dilapidated Irvington shopping center and work on a new plan that also would come with a new developer.

City staff are recommending the City Council, in its capacity as the city’s redevelopment agency, dismiss the current developer, City Core, and work with Santa Clara Development Co. to create a new plan to redevelop the six-acre Irvington property, which is bordered by Fremont Boulevard, Bay Street, Irvington Avenue and Trimboli Way.

The recommendation came shortly after the city lost its would-be anchor tenant, Whole Food Market. Whole Food Market decided that it would not move into the area at this time.
