DENVER – The City’s special projects and finance committees will meet on October 16 to discuss Denver’s purchase of the Rocky Mountain News building. The committees will be apprised of the deal, but then they will break into a closed, executive session to be told of the finances, Derek Brown, who handles the city’s assets, tells GlobeSt.com. “There will be no deal at the meeting, but we’ll tell them of the progress we’ve made,” he said.

Denver Mayor Wellington Webb previously has said the City is offering about $16 million to buy the building, where he wants to put the next city jail. Sources also tell GlobeSt.com that the City is offering the Denver Newspaper Agency, which handles business dealings for the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post, about 18 months of free rent on the building at 100 Gene Amole Way.
