Mills Corp., which currently has 18 mega-malls in the United States and Canada either operating or under development, wants to build a massive retail complex that would be tied in with the adjacent Six Flags Marine World.

County and officials say they are impressed with the company's proposal but still need to fully evaluate the proposal to ensure it will complement Six Flags and the nearby Gateway Plaza shopping center. Residents, meanwhile, are concerned about the area's rapid urbanization. No hearing dates have been set.

In addition to its existing mega-mall developments, Mills Corp. is the San Francisco 49ers' partner in the stalled $200-million Candlestick Point stadium shopping center project. The project has been delayed by changes in the NFL team's ownership.
