With the investment, GM will renovate and retool the plant's general assembly area, body shop and paint shop. Production is currently scheduled to begin in the second half of 2004.

Prior to the launch of the all-new Grand Am, Orion Assembly plans to reinstate its second shift of production. GM transitioned the plant to one shift of production in April 2002 to align the plant's production output with market demand for its current products. The timing of reinstating the second shift has not yet been determined.

Orion Assembly currently builds the Pontiac Bonneville, Oldsmobile Aurora and the Buick Park Avenue. In 2001, Orion Assembly built 150,662 units. The factory currently employs about 2,000 hourly and 170 salaried employees.
