City Council to Developer: Scale Back Office Building

EAST PALO ALTO, CA-After nearly three years of discussions, the East Palo Alto City Council has rejected the $60 million University Palms office and retail project because it is too big.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA-The East Palo Alto City Council has rejected a proposal for a $60 million office and retail project, saying that the project was too large and needed to be scaled down.

The University Palms project, which includes a six-story office and retail complex on a 2.6-acre site, was proposed almost three years ago by developers Owen Byrd and Tony Carrasco, who own the property on University Avenue. This week, the city council rejected the proposal because they felt it was too big for East Palo Alto—a city that has avoided large office and retail structures in the past.
