NEW YORK CITY-The State will kick in $61.4 million toward the development of a new $138-million academic building for Brooklyn’s Medgar Evers College. Governor George Pataki revealed the funding for the 178,000-sf facility at the college’s annual awards dinner, held last Thursday at the Brooklyn Marriott.

“Medgar Evers College is an outstanding symbol of the ongoing renaissance taking place at the City University of New York,” Pataki said at last week’s event. “This wonderful new facility will reflect that renaissance, and will provide continued opportunities for the students of the Medgar Evers community who are seeking to improve their lives and the lives of their families.”

The first $15.1 million in state funding is already in place and is earmarked for design costs. CUNY’s capital plan is administering the cash in partnership with the City of New York.
