The state is expected to provide $70 million, with the remaining $30 million to come from private donations. This summer, the Troy, OH-based Paul Duke Foundation contributed $2 million, and Troy donors Thomas and Patricia Robinson gave a $5-million gift to the fund.
Preliminary studies, submitted by two firms, agree on a facility totaling 220,040 sf and restoration of the original building's grand reference hall with 30-foot ceilings, which have since been split into two floors. The firms are Boston-based Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott, and Columbus-based URS Corp., a turnkey architectural and engineering firm.
OSU plans to hire an architect by year-end. Construction is to begin in 2005 and take three years.
The library is named after the man who served as OSU's president from 1899 to 1925, during which the original structure was built.
