"330 Jay Street is a vital component of MetroTech Center, which has proven to be a major catalyst in generating thousands of new jobs and bringing scores of businesses to the heart of downtown Brooklyn," says Charles A. Ratner, president and chief executive officer of Forest City Enterprises. "We look forward to achieving further milestones in the development and to opening this new building for our tenants, who provide vital services to the people of Brooklyn, New York City, and the state of New York."

The final steel beam was hoisted 473 feet to complete exterior construction on the 32-story building, which is due for completion in spring 2005. The property eventually will house the new facilities of the New York State Supreme Court, the Kings County Family Court, several city and state agencies and 170,000 sf of office space.

The building is considered the jewel in the crown of the New York City Court' Capital Program master Plan to modernize court facilities on a citywide level. Designed by Perkins Eastman Architects PC, the property will include 84 hearing and courtrooms, office space for court-related as well as city and state business.

Built mainly of brick, the building also features stonework and a glass-curtain wall. Its front façade's vertical slope is designed to serve the dual purposes of denoting the structure as a public building and unifying floor-to-floor heights, which will be taller on courtroom floors than on office floors.

Cleveland-based Forest City's other New York City projects include the Hilton Times Square Hotel, the Embassy Suites Hotel in Battery Park City and a joint venture with the New York Times Co. to develop and own the new New York Times building in Midtown.
