Austin Officials OK 15-Acre, Mixed-Use Project

AUSTIN-Dallas developer Kamco Property Group wins the go-ahead after spending the last two years getting through Austin's entitlement process. Western Oaks is 60 days away from breaking ground on the first wave of retail development.

AUSTIN-Kamco Property Group could be moving dirt on a 15-acre, mixed-use project in southwest Austin within 60 days. The project, which would contain a total of 78,000 sf of buildings, has received final approval from the City of Austin.

The Western Oaks project has signed Bank One for a freestanding bank building and drive-through, Bryan Kaminski, Kamco’s president, tells GlobeSt.com. Next in Kamco’s sights are a fast-food restaurant and a destination restaurant. That would be followed by a 26,000-sf retail occupant and tenants for 14,400 sf of inline retail space. Two planned office buildings–6,000 sf and 16,000 sf–will wait until the market’s ready.

“We don’t have players yet,” Kaminski says of the restaurant pads, “but we’re just now starting the marketing process. The big box and general retail will most likely still come about. The office is somewhat of a wild card.”
