State officials report that Medical Technology Industries will create 300 new biotech jobs in Newburgh and New England Motor Freight will create 230 new jobs in the Town of Montgomery.
Medical Technology Industries will headquarter its "Sight 4 Kids" eye-screening service and establish a research and development facility in Newburgh, creating 300 jobs, according to state officials. The company plans to invest $7.9 million to establish those operations at the Northeast Business Center, located adjacent to Stewart Airport. Details on the size of the company's requirements at Northeast Business Center and its planned research and development facility were not available at press time.
Medical Technology Industries will establish in Newburgh its Sight 4 Kids program, an initiative to extend medical eye service to lower income households The Sight 4 Kids management team is currently located in Lancaster, Pa. The firm will lease and upgrade space at an existing facility within the Northeast Business Center and will have room to build a new facility in the future, state officials said.
The Orange County Partnership, along with New York State's Empire State Development Corp., worked on the transaction. Maureen Halahan, president and chief executive officer of the Orange County Partnership, said that Medical Technology Industries had searched for space elsewhere in the Hudson Valley before it decided on the Newburgh site, which will serve as an office to service the five boroughs of New York City and the Hudson Valley region.
"This is exactly the kind of high-tech company we want to bring to Orange County," she says, noting that the new jobs the firm plans to create will have an average salary of approximately $50,000 a year.
State officials also reported that New England Motor Freight will invest $30 million to expand its Town of Montgomery operations from 12,000 sf to 52,000 sf. The company will create 230 new jobs, increasing its Orange County workforce to 300 employees. The firm is the largest family-owned and operated motor carrier in the Northeast with 2,700 employees in 30 terminals across 12 states.
Due to its expansion plans, Medical Technology Industries is eligible to apply to the state for a $650,000 capital grant, and is expected to receive approximately $3.5 million in tax benefits for expanding in the Orange County Empire Zone. New England Motor Freight is eligible to apply for a $400,000 Empire State Development grant and is expected to obtain approximately $1.65 million in sales tax exemptions.
