The property is located at the intersection of Story and King roads. The center's owner, Dennis Fong, is among those opposed to the city's redevelopment plan. Mayor Gonzales says shopping center merchants have not worked with the city to make the center better, and that relocating them is a fair offer.
City Councilwoman Pat Dando, who dissented, criticized the city staff and indirectly Mayor Ron Gonzales for scheduling the vote on the controversial plan during the day, when opponents are less likely to attend. "It's a slap in the face to have these meetings during the day,'' Dando says. "These are working people we're talking about. I find this whole discussion and process repugnant.''
