The hotel developer based in Springfield, MO received permission from the Austin City Council last week to erect a 100-foot tall hotel just across Texas 71 from the airport. Without that OK, the hotel would have been limited to a 60-foot height.

Hammons plans to build a 90,000-sf, full-service Embassy Suites Hotel. It will have substantial space for meetings and conferences to take advantage of its proximity to Austin's airport.

With the height issue resolved, Hammons still must go through other city paperwork such as filing a site plan and obtaining a building permit, says Sarah Crocker, a consultant who helped Hammons get the zoning change. The company also will be sensitive to market conditions, she tells GlobeSt.com. "It will be at least a year before they get started," she says.
