The depository currently is at 4501 S. Tripp Ave. on the city's Southwest Side. The new facility, which is being built by Opus North, will be at West 42nd Street and South Karlov Ave. Opus is design/builder for the build-to-suit office/warehouse facility, with A. Epstein & Sons International providing architectural and engineering services. The exterior will be constructed of precast concrete with an aluminum-framed, green-tinted window system.

In addition to expanded food storage areas, receiving and shipping docks and cold storage space, the depository will house the following programs: Chicago's Community Kitchens, Meal Production Center, Pantry University, Kids Café Chicago Headquarters and an On-Site Agency Shopping mart.

The Food Depository has raised $15 million of the required $30 million needed to build the new structure with private fundraising. A public campaign has begun to raise the remaining $15 million. Each year in February or March, the Chicago-area real estate community gathers for the Annual Real Estate Awards Dinner, a major fundraiser for the charity and one of the big events in the local real estate social calendar.
