City Administrator Bill Lee will fill the slot. Mayor Willie Brown proposed Lee for the powerful commission after months of disputes over other candidates. Only Supervisor Matt Gonzalez voted against Lee.

Until this spring, the mayor appointed all seven commissioners. But with Measure D's passage, supervisors won the authority to name three and also to accept or reject the mayor's four picks. This summer, with at least one of those four in doubt for approval, Brown yanked all his nominees and the Planning Commission was left with too few members for a quorum.

Within recent weeks, three out of four of Brown's second slate were endorsed by the board and were later sworn in. The commission members include Rev. Edgar Boyd, pastor of Bethel AME Church; Shelley Bradford Bell, director of the Bayview Opera House; and Michael Antonini, a local dentist.

Lee joins the mayor's other choices along with the board's three selections -- planning consultant Marilyn Sue Lee, affordable housing consultant Lisa Feldstein, and electricians' labor administrator Kevin Hughes.

The new Planning Commission will start meeting this month.
