Voters Melt Hopes for $32M Cedar Park Ice Rink

CEDAR PARK, TX-The electorate turns a cold shoulder to the facility, which was backed by economic development officials as a shot in the arm for this Williamson County city. An $8.6-million bond issue would have cost homeowners $25 a year.

CEDAR PARK, TX-Voters in this fast-growing Williamson County city turned downed a proposal for a $32-million combination ice rink and amphitheater that would have been funded, in part, by tax dollars. The proposition that would have raised $8.6 million in bonds, which had the backing of economic development and city officials, was rejected by 58.5% of the voters.

The facility would have included two ice rinks, one for professional hockey with 7,500 seats, and a 6,500-seat amphitheater. It would have been built with Dallas-based Southwest Sports Group, which is affiliated with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.
