Gold's Gym is moving from Littlefield Mall to the Scarbrough building, where it's taking 25,000 sf on the basement level. The space formerly housed part of Scarbrough's department store and more recently the space has been home to a software company and an executive suites group.

They are seeking a national restaurant company, which would complement the Driskill and the Hard Rock Café, which opened earlier this year a block east of the building. It also would help bridge the Sixth Street entertainment district with the warehouse district west of Congress Avenue.

The restaurant space would have several levels and about 1,000 sf of outdoor seating. They hope a company would be attracted by the 550-space parking garage above the restaurant space.

Formerly brokers with T. Stacy & Associates, Jarvis and Beasley recently opened their own firm, Jarvis Beasley. They handle leasing for two of the most prominent and historic Downtown buildings, the Littlefield and Scarbrough buildings. Built around 1910, they were Austin's first skyscrapers and stand cater-corner from each other at Sixth Street and Congress Avenue in the heart of the CDB.

Beasley says the market for such historic buildings is good; the buildings are 99% leased. Tenants like the buildings' historic nature and, in the cases of Littlefield and Scarbrough, their location at what some call the crossroads of Texas. The buildings received marker from the Texas Historical Commission last week.

Jarvis and Beasley, who have their office on the seventh floor of the Scarbrough building, leased more than 2 million sf while at T. Stacy.
