GSA Eyes Whole Foods, Intel CBD Sites

AUSTIN-The General Services Administration once again is reviewing three sites for a 195,000-sf courthouse. Earlier this month, a public outcry forced the GSA to cross off two locations. The final decision comes in March.

AUSTIN-Three sites on the west side of the CBD are on the General Services Administration’s list for the possible location of a new federal courthouse. The GSA is now gathering information about the sites, such as how serious Whole Foods Markets Inc. is about building a new store and corporate headquarters on one of the tracts.

The Whole Foods’ parcel is between Fifth and Sixth streets and Lamar Boulevard and Bowie Street. Also on the list is the Intel building site at Nueces and Fifth streets. The third site is the block bounded by Fifth and Sixth streets and Rio Grande and San Antonio streets. Several businesses sit on that block, including the Hoffbrau restaurant.

This is the second list developed by the GSA. The first included the current site of the Austin Children’s Museum and the proposed site of the Austin Art Museum. Those were crossed off after the community protested.
