According to city officials, one of the best ways to boost the region's stalled economy is to focus on biotech. Since biotechnology was invented more than two decades ago, the Bay Area has housed the largest concentration of biotech firms and some of the best research institutes in the world.

Wareham Development has added a 75,000-sf building to Berkeley's biotech market, featuring laboratory and office space. The new building, located at 725 Potter Street, sits within the 14 building, 500,000-sf, $75 million Aquatic Park campus, which is owned by Wareham Development.

The building was constructed and designed to meet the specific requirements of the tenant, Bayer Diagnostics, which has consolidated from multiple locations in the East Bay, to this single location in Berkeley. Bayer Diagnostics Group has signed a 10-year lease for the entire building. The lease details were not available.
