The two stores are the first to open in Michigan.

The 10,875-sf Farmington Hills location is located on 14 Mile Road. TheRoyal Oak store, at 11,300 sf, is located on Woodward Avenue.

"People have written us for years about opening a store in their neighborhood. We're looking forward to becoming part of these communities," says Doug Rauch, president of Trader Joe's East.

The stores will feature a palm tree and Hawaiian shirt decor, with localmemorabilia including Motown records, Red Wings sports items, vintage automotive decorations and other collectibles. The market carries an array of domestic and imported foods and beverages, as well as 1,000 items under the company's private label.

The company began in 1985 in Los Angeles, and has since expanded to 190 stores in 18 states.
