ATLANTIC CITY, NJ-The US Postal Service has launched an advertising campaign to find the right site for its proposed new facility here, a highly automated complex that would include 22,000 sf of distribution and carrier space and a 6,000-sf retail unit, or about 28,000 sf altogether. Advertising for a site is required by the federal government, and postal officials hope to have a prospective site lined up by the end of January.

The new facility would replace the current 26,000-sf facility that dates back to the late 1930s. What the Post Office is looking for is a site in the vicinity of about 2.5 acres.

Both the city and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) are said to have a hand in the project. Indeed, the latter last year approved some $4.7 million in funding toward a new post office and redevelopment of the existing facility's site as a parking garage for the adjacent Sands Casino Hotel. However, local postal officials say the Sands portion of the project is not a factor in the current site search.
