The state fund hopes to break ground next fall on a 267,000-sf office project at 55 Ninth St. Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc. (HOK), a local design firm, has designed an 11-story, glass-faced building, with an underground garage, which the state says will boost the area's revitalization efforts.

According to state officials, SCIF will not use bond measures or tax funds to build the project. Instead, it will use existing resources. According to the state, the $82 million project will feature green development touches, including solar panels, thermal storage and water reclamation systems.

The proposal is currently in the midst of an environmental review.
