1.3M-SF Retail Breaking Ground in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO-Tomorrow, the Rouse Cos. and USAA will get the crews going on the long-awaited Shops at La Cantera. The northwest submarket center, part of a 1,677-acre development, is carrying a fall 2004 opening date.

SAN ANTONIO-Ground breaks tomorrow for the long-awaited Shops at La Cantera project, an undertaking that will bring 1.3 million sf of high-end retail to San Antonio’s growing northwest submarket. The center is to open in fall 2004.

The project is a joint venture between Columbia, MD-based Rouse Cos., a nationwide mall developer, and USAA, the San Antonio-based insurance, financial services and real estate company. At the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604, the development is in the heart of rapid residential and retail growth. It’s also near tourist attractions such as Sea World and major employers.
