Shannon Greene, CFO for the Leather Factory Inc., Tandy Leather's parent company, tells GlobeSt.com that the firm acquired the 1126 N Scottsdale Rd. property, located in Suite 6 of the building, for $30,000 from former owner Jim Augustson. He operated the store as Copper Saguaro Leather Co. "The Tempe area has always been a huge market for our industry and this store it is expected to be very successful.," Greene said.
The store, which operated as a Tandy Leather store at the same location prior to the company's sale in 2000 to the Leather Factory, will sell leather and leather craft supplies under the Tandy Leather name. In its earlier incarnation, the store was among the top 10 revenue generators for Tandy Leather, Greene said.
The sale marks Tandy's 14th retail store opening this year. Headquartered in Fort Worth, the Leather Factory is an international marketer and wholesale distributor of a broad range of leather and leather-related products including tools, dye, saddle and tack hardware and do-it-yourself leather making kits.
