City Council Votes for Buy Out, Redevelopment

CONCORD, CA-The City of Concord decides that the best use for a four-acre Downtown site is to buy out the property owners and redevelop it as a single project.

CONCORD, CA-The Concord City Council has voted to open the doors to redevelopment at a four-acre site near the 260-unit Legacy Apartments that are under construction in Downtown Concord. The site, which falls between Laguna Street and Oakmead Drive on Galinda Avenue, is worthy of redevelopment because it is located near the police station, BART and Concord’s Todos Santos Plaza shops and restaurants.

Currently, the site included auto and motorcycle shops, a funeral home, one house, and several small businesses. Their owners would be paid for their properties if the city decides to proceed with redevelopment, which it voted to do last night. However, these small businesses have expressed concern that it will be difficult for them to find new and affordable locations if the city uses eminent domain to take their properties.
