WaMu will occupy 11,458 sf, the building's entire eighth floor. Linda Gee, leasing agent for PM Realty Group, represented the owner, California investor John Edward Anderson's Duesenberg Investment Co. in the transaction. WaMu was represented by Matthew Bittick of Grubb and Ellis. Details of the long-term lease are not being disclosed.
"Washington Mutual selected Topa Financial as its new business location because of the building's prestigious Bishop Street address, excellent parking and a complete offering of amenities and services," Gee says.
The Topa Financial Center, formerly the Amfac Towers, was purchased by Anderson in 2001 for $95 million. Anderson bought the complex from Japan-based Mitsui Fudosan Co. in 1988 for a reported $141 million.
