12/24/02: One interesting aspect of this recession has been its impact on some of the biggest players in the capital markets. This year, three major companies have been delisted from the NYSE: Enron, MCI, and Kmart. The first two had less to do with the economy and more to do with financial misdeeds. Kmart, however, a mainstay of American commerce, is harder to overlook. Although it had already filed for bankruptcy, it’s tough to fathom Kmart being delisted after 84 years on the Big Board. This company helped usher in the era of one-stop shopping with marketing tactics such as the “Blue Light Special.” Let’s hope its current bankruptcy plan works out and we can hear another round of, “Attention, Kmart shoppers…” This will bode well both for its employees and the market as a whole.

WALLICK COMPANIES (ATLANTA) Thomas G. Selby joins as president of Wallick Properties LLC in charge of Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast multi-family operations, Senior Housing and the Property Accounting Services group.
 

BOMA (SAN DIEGO, CA) The San Diego chapter of BOMA has announced its new Board of Directors for 2003. President will be Joe Murphy, RPA, CPM, of Wells Fargo Plaza and Senior Real Estate Manager for CB Richard Ellis; while Glenn Fibiger, RPA, of USAA Realty has been elected vice president.
 

WYNDHAM INT’L INC. (DALLAS) John Paul Oliver is the new area director of operations for Wyndham’s Area 13, which encompasses the Wyndham Buttes Resort, the Wyndham Garden Hotel–north Phoenix, the Wyndham Garden Hotel–Chandler and the Wyndham Phoenix Airport.

MORTGAGE BANKERS (WASHINGTON, DC) The MBA names Laura Armstrong vice president of Public Affairs, Elaine Howard vice president of Meetings and Conferences and Gabe Minton vice president of Industry Technology.
