Target won approval from the Miramar City Commission in September to build an approximately 175,000-sf SuperTarget in the western part of the city. The approval came after much controversy, as residents and commissioners said the discount superstore will be too big and bring too much traffic to the area.

The City Commission approved the superstore's building after a judge looked at the zoning for the proposed site and ruled in favor of SuperTarget, saying the city could not deny the store coming in. The city decided not to fight it further nor spend any more tax dollars doing so when it likely would not stop the store's opening.

The developer had offered to contribute about $275,000 toward area road improvements, including the widening of Miramar Parkway, in return for the new SuperTarget--something city officials appreciated.

"The strong demand for shopping center properties has allowed us to continue to sell assets in smaller markets further strengthening our overall portfolio," Thomas H. McAuley, IRT Property Co.'s chairman and CEO, says in a statement.

Miramar Park Plaza is a pre-development project in Broward County.
