Target To Build 175,000-SF Superstore In Miramar

MIRAMAR, FL-IRT Property Co. of Atlanta has sold 21 acres of a 23-acre tract of land at Miramar Park Plaza here to Target for $6.6 million and a net gain of $700,000. A new SuperTarget is planned for the entire site, north of Miramar Parkway on 172nd Ave.

Target won approval from the Miramar City Commission in September to build an approximately 175,000-sf SuperTarget in the western part of the city. The approval came after much controversy, as residents and commissioners said the discount superstore will be too big and bring too much traffic to the area.

The City Commission approved the superstore’s building after a judge looked at the zoning for the proposed site and ruled in favor of SuperTarget, saying the city could not deny the store coming in. The city decided not to fight it further nor spend any more tax dollars doing so when it likely would not stop the store’s opening.
