FreeFlight Systems Inc. will take another 11,000 sf at its current site, 3700 S. Interstate 35, giving it a total of 40,000 sf. The company also said it plans to add 20 employees over the next two years.

The company makes global positioning systems for aircraft navigation and onboard safety systems for business and commuter aircraft. It received a boost in 2002 when the Federal Aviation Administration chose FreeFlight to be the first company to certify satellite-landing capabilities using Wide Area Augmentation Systems. FreeFlight said it has received orders for 200 systems to be shipped early this year and expects volume to grow to several thousand per year.

FreeFlight moved to Waco from Austin when its parent company, APS Aerospace, acquired the business and commuter aircraft product business from Trimble Navigation. FreeFlight's expansion news follows recent announcement that Tractor Supply Co. would expand its Waco operations and that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. would open a returns center in Waco.
