City planners this month are forming a "stakeholders" group to give input to staff and the consultant in charge of the project to re-assess the commercial and industrial/business park needs in the city.
Gresham hasn't updated its plan since 1988.
Among the objectives is to identify new commercial and industrial zoning and re-evaluate current land use in an effort to lure new jobs and prevent erosion of the city's existing job base.
A major objective is to plan the next 20 years of land use and make sure there is a five-year supply of developable sites, according to a statement by the city.
The city has already taken steps to improve its standing as a business-friendly alternative to Portland. In November, the city launched its Rapid Response Team, which will provide customer service for business hopingto expand or relocate within the city.
