Rodney and Rene Smith purchased the 36,000-sf building at 1710 E Washington St. from the Hedlund Family Trust which had operated Hedlund Fabrics, a well-known fabric supplier in the area for the past three decades. The new owners plan to use the single-story building, which includes 3,000 sf of office and showroom space, to store exhibits for trade shows and conventions.

Steve Pool of Grubb & Ellis Co. tells GlobeSt.com, that the building's downtown location, close to nearby convention facilities and hotels, was a key factor in the sale.Pool and Rick Foss, also with Grubb and Ellis, represented the buyer in the transaction. Susan Vuchichevich of ReMax on Tatum Realty bargained on the seller's behalf.
