PHOENIX-A single-story commercial building in downtown Phoenix that was home to a family-owned fabric business for 30 years has been sold for $1.3 million to an area couple who will transform it into a storage center for their convention and trade show firm.

Rodney and Rene Smith purchased the 36,000-sf building at 1710 E Washington St. from the Hedlund Family Trust which had operated Hedlund Fabrics, a well-known fabric supplier in the area for the past three decades. The new owners plan to use the single-story building, which includes 3,000 sf of office and showroom space, to store exhibits for trade shows and conventions.
