The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will decide this week whether to sell the land, which is located south of Dublin Boulevard between Demarcus Boulevard and Iron Horse Parkway. This would be the first deal for the 75-acre Transit Center site adjacent to the Dublin BART station. The county considers this land to be "surplus" land because it will not be used in developing the BART station.
AvalonBay is one of 10 developers that submitted proposals to buy the land. The Atlanta-based REIT proposed to build about 565 apartment units on two parcels and about 405 units on another parcel. It also plans to develop 35,000-sf of space on the ground floor of the apartment buildings for businesses and restaurants. The cost of this project has not been revealed.
According to Alameda officials, the county intends to replace the 1,200-space BART parking lot with a new parking structure that will add 500-1,000 parking spaces. The proceeds of the land sale will go toward the $20 million price tag of this project.
