The $8.8-million project, built by the Weitz Co., will feature interiors comprised of two- or four-bedroom units set in a wood and concrete structure with exterior brick accents. The clubhouse, which will feature meeting and recreational space, also is designed with added room that will allow the school to expand the area into a dining facility.

Clay Wells, business development manager for Phoenix-based Weitz Co., tells GlobeSt.com that ASU West anticipates the dormitory will be full by the fall semester following its completion in August. He said the dormitory, set on 7 1/2 acres at 4701 W. Thunderbird Rd., will house 331 students in 60 four-bedroom, 43 two-bedroom and five single-bedroom units. Each of the 108 apartment-style dorm rooms will contain a living area, kitchen and private bathrooms. The clubhouse, to be built adjacent to the dormitory, will feature a computer lab, multi-purpose room, study room, classroom, offices and a vending area, he said.

Larry Mohr, Weitz's Southwest Division president, called the construction "a milestone" for the ASU West campus and a significant addition to the entire West Valley. The nine-month project was designed by architect DFD CornoyerHedrick. It is owned by Collegiate Development Services.
