Out with the Old, In with the New

SAN MATEO, CA- As the possibility of a closure looms over nursing homes in San Mateo County and surrounding areas, plans for a new 59-unit senior housing project goes before the San Mateo Planning Commission next week.

Developers will present commissioners with plans for The Versailles, a site located directly across the street from Mills Hospital in downtown San Mateo at El Camino Real and Crystal Springs Road. Developers hope to provide below-market priced housing for residents 55 years or older. The site used to be the location of a gas station and the Crystal Springs Medical Building.

The 31,000-sf Baywood Building will include 15 two-bedroom apartments, four one-bedroom units and one guest room. Eight penthouses, 32 two-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom and den units will make up the 107,000-sf Crystal Springs Building. The project will cost approximately $35 million.
