The commission at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday will weigh PeaceHealth's RiverBend project in the northwest portion of the city. A commission vote would pave the way for a final decision by the city council on the project, one of themost devisive issues in the two-city area over the last few years.

City planners said last week the project meets land use guidelines, they they still must decide whether to approve general plan amendments needed to build SacredHeart Medical Center at RiverBend.

PeaceHealth hopes to build the project at Game Farm Road and the McKenzieRiver. The organization is shifting many of its key services from the SacredHeart facility in downtown Eugene to the more suburban Springfield location.

One commission member, Chairman Tim Malloy, must recuse himself from thevote because he is employed by a PeaceHealth division.

The project must comply with land-use provisions of the Eugene-SpringfieldMetropolitan Plan and the Gateway Refinement Plan.

Critics say the project is unacceptable because it¹s inconsistent with theEugene-Springfield Metropolitan Plan.
