Hooters Restaurant Goes to Washington

WASHINGTON, DC-In a downtown space near the MCI center where Seventh Street and I Street meet, the popular, and perhaps notorious, Atlanta, GA-headquartered restaurant chain Hooters of America Inc. has opened its very first location in the nation’s capital. The doors of the 4,500-sf locale swung open today, marking the debut of the sixth Hooters restaurant in the Metropolitan Washington, DC region. Other area locations include sites in the Northern Virginia towns of Fairfax, Fredericksburg and Manassas, and the Maryland cities of Baltimore and Rockville. “We felt putting a Hooters in Washington was a capital idea,” Hooters spokesman Mike McNeil quips to GlobeSt.com.

Well known for scantily clad, all-female wait staff known as the Hooters Girls, the dining chain will mark its 20-year anniversary this year and currently boasts more than 300 beach-theme locations throughout the US and 10 other countries. The company took eighth place on the National Restaurant News list of the top 10 growth chains in the US for 2002.
