State Buys 7,000 Woodlands Acres for $4.4M

PHILADELPHIA-In addition to selling this watershed property in the Appalachian Mountains of Northumberland and Columbia counties to the state for conservation in perpetuity, Pennsylvania Suburban Water Co. will donate another 2,000 acres of land above its reservoirs to the state.

PHILADELPHIA-Bryn Mawr, PA-based Philadelphia Suburban Corp.’s largest subsidiary, Pennsylvania Suburban Water Co., will transfer about 9,000 acres of woodlands in Northumberland and Columbia counties to state forestlands under the direction of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The state will buy 7,000 acres of watershed land for $4.4 million, and Pennsylvania Suburban will donate another 2,000 acres of remaining land above its water supply reservoirs. Much of the land is in the Appalachian Mountains and, under the agreement, will be protected in perpetuity by DCNR.
