Rouse Relinquishes Liberty CEO Post to Hankowsky

MALVERN, PA-After a second round of chemotherapy to combat lung cancer, Willard Rouse names Bill Hankowsky CEO of Malvern-based Liberty Property Trust. Hankowsky says leasing is the current priority; development of One Penn Plaza will await more pre-leasing.

MALVERN, PA-In a hastily announced conference call yesterday, Willard G. Rouse III resigned as CEO of Malvern, PA-based Liberty Property Trust and turned the reigns over to William P. Hankowsky, who was hired in 2001, after Rouse was diagnosed with lung cancer. Hankowsky was promoted to president last March, and took on expanded responsibilities in October 2002.

Saying, “I feel perfectly fine,” and adding, “the second wave of cancer is gone or has stopped its spread,” Rouse added, “I do feel it’s the appropriate time to make sure the transition going forward is as smooth as possible.” He will remain as chairman of the board.

With characteristic candor, Rouse acknowledged, “I don’t have a lot of hobbies and none that give as great joy as I have here. It’s time to get the hell out of Bill’s way and allow him to do the job he’s so capable of doing. Not too happily, I’ve watched the lines outside my door diminish as his increased.”
