Mare Island Project Causes Conflict

VALLEJO, CA-Just one week after Vallejo's City Manager David Martinez and Mayor Tony Intintoli Jr's announcement that they oppose a proposed liquefied natural gasification project on Mare Island, Martinez says he will resign.

VALLEJO, CA-Vallejo’s City Manager David Martinez and Finance Director Fred Wright announced that they plan to leave their jobs with the city at the end of the year, a decision that appears to be linked to politics surrounding the controversial proposed 900-megawatt power plant in Vallejo.

The news came during the opening of the Vallejo City Council’s semi-annual goal-setting retreat on Mare Island and within one week of Martinez’s and Mayor Tony Intintoli Jr’s announcement that they oppose a proposed liquefied natural gasification project on Mare Island.

They announced their opposition after Shell Gas and Power withdrew as a partner in the project with Bechtel Enterprises. Intintoli also cited health and safety concerns.
