The renovation project, which was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony January 23, entailed the upgrade of the 5,000-sf Youth Education Town located at 2220 Broadway. Renovations included gutting a former church and building a computer center, a new lounge and a stage. In addition, the center's kitchen was upgraded and a 30-ft x10-ft mural was installed. "The center was previously underutilized," Gary Mast, senior project manager for Jones Lang LaSalle, tells GlobeSt.com. "We turned it into something that will be used on a daily basis," he adds.

Now that the 2220 Broadway building is complete, the NFL and Jones Lang LaSalle team has turned its attention to another youth center project in San Diego. With a $1-million donation from the NFL and a $1-million contribution from the community, the team plans to build a new Youth Education Town at 3660 Fairmount in the City Heights community of San Diego. The new center, which will be designed by Gensler and built by Roel Construction Co., will be very similar to the 2220 Broadway building, Mast says.
