Motel-to-Apartment Conversion Gains Approvals

SEATTLE-The 43-unit Pine City Motel on 4th Avenue South is about to become a 42-unit multi-family apartment building, to be used as both a congregate residence and low income transitional housing.

The Low Income Housing Institute received the necessary approvals last week, receiving a determination of environmental non-significance and a conditional use permit to convert from one non-conforming use to another. Barring an appeal by the end of next week, the conversion will have final approval. Aside from replacing the current windows, there are no exterior alterations proposed for the building façade.

The 30,000-sf property is located at 6188 4th Avenue South. It sits between 4th and 5th avenues at Michigan Street, in the Duwamish Manufacturing/Industrial Center. The 4th and Michigan intersection contains a gas station, a branch bank and fast food restaurant. It is just south of the on and off ramp for highway-99 in both directions and thus carries a high volume of traffic.
