Chestnut Square will have a theater seating for 580 people. There also will be 16 bowling lanes, 3,755-sf arcade, food court and 5,000-sf multipurpose room for community meetings, dances and other events.
Tom Dyke, a partner in the development firm Chestnut Enterprises, says community response has been so strong that two more theaters, seating a total of 500, probably will be built once the first part is completed. "We're building it in such a way that we can add on without disturbing the rest of it," he tells GlobeSt.com. More bowling lanes are likely as well.
The project is situated at Loop 150 (called Chestnut Street in Bastrop) and Texas 95 on Bastrop's east side. Officials expect the center to help generate more activity on that side of town. Most of Bastrop's recent development has been concentrated on its west side along Texas 71.
The center is based on a concept developed by American Family Entertainment Centers, based in Pinedale, WY. Tom Dyke of Austin and Bill Chess of Bastrop are developing the project.
The center will replace a movie theater that burned in 1994. Dyke says it will draw people from Bastrop County and the neighboring Fayette, Lee, Caldwell and Gonzales counties.Morgan/Russell Architects of Salt lake City designed the center. Raymond Construction Services Inc. of Austin is the general contractor.
