Dillard's at Greenbrier Goes In for Reconstruction

CHESAPEAKE, VA-Little Rock, AR-based Dillard’s—a popular fashion apparel and home furnishings chain–has moved forward with plans to reinvent its store in the Greenbrier Mall by consolidating its current dual-anchor layout into a single 160,000-sf retail destination. With construction activity scheduled to start in March, the new facility should be up and running by the spring of 2004.

Dillard’s opened in the Greenbrier Mall in 1997, and company officials wasted no time expanding the store’s shopping space by opening up a corresponding space the next year in another of the mall’s anchor locations, which had been vacated by a Belk’s store. “Our experience in Virginia is still rather young,” Dillard’s Julie J. Bull shares with GlobeSt.com. “We’ve gone from no locations just a few years ago to 10 locations. It underscores our commitment to the state.” Currently, the retail chain has nearly 340 stores across 29 states.
