BAA Lynton secured detailed planning consent in June 2002 for a 146,228-sf airport hotel. As well as the rooms, the eight storey development, designed by Reid Architects, will provide around 9,000 sf of meeting room space, a restaurant and car parking for 125 cars. The development site fronts the A30 at the south eastern corner of the airport and is only a short walk from Hatton Cross underground station providing fast direct access to Heathrow Airport and Central London.

Exact terms of the deal are undisclosed but Jurys Doyle is taking a 125-year ground lease on the site and investing around £22 million ($36 million) in the development. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2003 and it will open in Autumn 2004.

The Jurys Inn Heathrow will bring the number of Jurys Inns operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland to 17, with almost 4,000 bedrooms. Together with the Jurys Hotels portfolio it will bring the total number of properties being operated by the Group to 36, representing over 7,700 bedrooms.

Jurys Doyle chief executive Pat McCann said: "Jurys Doyle has been looking for a suitable entry point to the London Heathrow market for some time and we are very pleased that BAA has chosen us to develop this new hotel within the airport complex."

Insignia Hotels acted in behalf of BAA Lynton. Stan Cooney & Associates acted on behalf of Jurys Doyle.
