Glassmaker to Invest $30M in New Facility

ABINGDON, VA-Glass manufacturing company AFG Industries has decided to develop a new 150,000-sf facility in Oak Park Center for Business and Industry. Headquartered in Kingsport, TN, AFG plans to house a glass coating operation in the structure. The $30 million endeavor will create 80 new employment opportunities for Washington County residents.

“The grading and construction of the building will begin in the second quarter and should finish in the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter,” AFG vice president of marketing and business development Fred Wallin tells GlobeSt.com “It takes about 12 months to get the equipment ordered from Germany, so we expect to be up and running in June of next year.”
