Located on the Gila River Indian Community in Sacaton and Gila Crossing, the new centers, each 21,052 sf on eight-acre sites, will provide classrooms and activity areas for children from infants through school age. The projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2004.
Designed by QK4 of Tempe and built by Phoenix-based Summit Builders, the centers feature a full-service commercial kitchen with dining area, health center, teachers' lounge and administrative offices. Designed in a horseshoe configuration, the buildings include exterior courtyards with fountains, an amphitheater, courtyard seating and exposed aggregate sidewalks surrounded by native landscaping.
The early education centers mark the second project Summit has built for the Gila River Indian Community. In 1985, the builder constructed an 85,000 sf interim casino on the reservation.
