The initiative will be headed up by Keith Misner, formerly of Grubb's Multi Housing Investment Group, who will serve as executive managing director for the new unit. According to Misner, the group sprung from the firm's decision to deliver more coordinated investment services to G&E's $3.5-billion annual investment sales business. The firm has completed more than $11 billion in investment transactions during the last three years.
Grubb CFO Ian Bress spearheaded a companywide effort to centralize the firm's investment platform with Misner as point man.
"As part of our ongoing effort to provide the marketplace with a fully integrated platform of real estate services, we are strengthening our focus and ability to offer institutional sales and investment services to our clients," says Bress. "Grubb & Ellis has always had an investment sales capability, but this closely coordinated group will bring our client servicing capability to a much higher and consistent level globally.
The group will control the delivery of financial services expertise throughout all of the firm's 92 US offices and expand its global reach through dedicated investment sales initiatives with Knight Frank and Avison Young.
In the US, regional manager Marie Balian in New York city will head up the Eastern Region; Dallas-based Marshall Brantmeier will run the Central Region and Mark Howell will handle the Western Region out of Sacramento. In addition, two advisory boards, comprising a combined total of 42 members, will assist in the endeavor both domestically and abroad.
"The Board members will provide specific underwriting expertise and investment standards for pricing and deal structuring to better maximize a client's return on investment," says Misner. "More importantly, the group will provide a formal structure for Grubb & Ellis professionals to team or partner on investment opportunities, work closely with the entire Grubb & Ellis Global Services Group and global network of professionals, and share information on sources of capital and potential investors that mutually benefit the firm and our clients."
